How We Design a Greece Trip
The best journeys through Greece combine Athens with one or more island destinations and, whenever possible, time on the mainland. Athens deserves several days for its history, food scene, and vibrant neighborhoods before heading to the islands. From there, travelers can explore the Cyclades, discover Crete’s rich culture and cuisine, or venture into the Peloponnese for ancient sites and dramatic coastal landscapes. Each trip is designed around your interests, the best seasonal timing, and the ideal combination of destinations.
Greece by Region
Some of our favorite destinations in Greece include:
• Athens – ancient history and vibrant city life
• The Cyclades – Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, and Naxos
• Crete – culture, cuisine, and Venetian history
• The Peloponnese – ancient sites and dramatic coastlines
• Nafplio – one of Greece’s most charming historic towns
• Athens – ancient history and vibrant city life
• The Cyclades – Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, and Naxos
• Crete – culture, cuisine, and Venetian history
• The Peloponnese – ancient sites and dramatic coastlines

Athens — Ancient History and Modern Greek Energy
Athens is far more than a gateway to the islands. The city combines one of the world’s greatest concentrations of ancient history with lively neighborhoods, excellent food, rooftop bars, and an increasingly sophisticated hotel scene. From the Acropolis and its remarkable museum to the cafés, markets, and boutiques of Plaka, Kolonaki, and Monastiraki, Athens rewards travelers who spend at least two or three days discovering the city properly. Athens works especially well at the beginning of a Greece itinerary, giving travelers time to settle in, connect with the country’s history, and enjoy one of Europe’s most dynamic urban food scenes before heading to the islands or mainland.

The Cyclades — Iconic Islands, Sunlit Villages, and the Aegean Sea
The Cyclades are the image many travelers carry in their minds when they dream of Greece — whitewashed villages, blue-domed chapels, dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and long dinners overlooking the Aegean. But each island has its own distinct personality. Mykonos is cosmopolitan and social, Paros is elegant and relaxed, Naxos is authentic and spacious, and Santorini is one of the most romantic destinations in Europe. The best Cyclades itineraries combine one or two islands thoughtfully rather than trying to do too much. Ferries and short flights make island-hopping easy, but pacing matters. The goal is not just to see the islands, but to experience them.
Mykonos — Cosmopolitan Energy and Beach Life
|
Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan destination in Greece, and some would argue in the world! And for sure it's the most famous for its beaches, beach parties, exceptional dining and vibrant nightlife. Add in elegant hotels, boutique properties and sprawling villas and its no wonder the global jet-setters descend on the island every summer. The island is also known for its windmills, a defining feature of the Myconian landscape that has become synonymous with Greek summer. We love Mykonos Town, the narrow winding streets, discovering small cafes and shops, and the art galleries full of unexpected treasures. July and August are the crowded months, so booking months in advance is necessary. If you go in June and September or early October, you'll still have all the vacation delights and more room to enjoy it. Please get in touch with questions then we can begin planning your ideal trip!

Paros — Cycladic Beauty with Relaxed Sophistication
Paros has quietly become one of the most appealing islands in the Cyclades for travelers seeking a perfect balance of style, authenticity, and relaxed island life. While Mykonos is energetic and glamorous and Santorini is dramatic and romantic, Paros offers a more laid-back sophistication that many experienced travelers now prefer. The island is known for its charming harbor towns, beautiful sandy beaches, and classic whitewashed villages that seem untouched by time. Naoussa, the island’s most fashionable village, is a maze of narrow stone streets lined with lively tavernas, boutique shops, and elegant waterfront restaurants where fishing boats still dock each evening. Paros also offers exceptional beaches, from the golden sands of Kolymbithres to the long sweeping shoreline at Santa Maria. The island is large enough to explore over several days, with scenic countryside, traditional villages, and small chapels scattered across the landscape. Naxos — Authentic Cycladic Life and Endless Beaches
Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades and one of the most authentic. While nearby islands like Mykonos and Santorini attract the spotlight, Naxos offers a more traditional Greek island experience — expansive beaches, fertile valleys, mountain villages, and a relaxed pace of life that feels timeless. The island’s main town, Naxos Chora, is one of the most charming ports in the Cyclades. Its waterfront promenade is lined with tavernas and cafés, while the old town rises above the harbor in a maze of narrow alleyways and Venetian-era architecture. Dominating the harbor entrance is the iconic Portara, the massive marble gateway of an unfinished ancient temple that has become one of the most photographed landmarks in Greece. Naxos is also famous for its long sandy beaches, many of which stretch for miles along the island’s western coast. Beaches like Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, and Plaka offer crystal-clear water, relaxed beach clubs, and spectacular sunset views across the Aegean. Travelers who love the beauty of the Cyclades but prefer a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere often find Naxos to be one of the most rewarding islands in Greece.

Santorini — Greece’s Most Dramatic Island
Santorini is one of the most spectacular destinations in the Mediterranean. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, the island’s dramatic cliffs rise high above a deep blue caldera, creating one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Europe. The island is famous for its whitewashed villages perched along the cliffs, especially the enchanting town of Oia, where narrow pathways wind between elegant cave houses, boutique hotels, and terrace restaurants overlooking the sea. Sunsets here are legendary, drawing visitors each evening to watch the sky turn shades of gold, pink, and deep crimson over the Aegean. Beyond its famous views, Santorini offers outstanding cuisine, world-class wines produced from ancient volcanic vineyards, and a fascinating history that stretches back to the Bronze Age. Travelers can explore the archaeological site of Akrotiri, relax on the island’s unique black-sand beaches, or simply enjoy long Mediterranean dinners overlooking the caldera. The Peloponnese — Ancient Greece, Legendary Cities, and Coastal Beauty
The Peloponnese is the legendary heartland of ancient Greece, a vast peninsula where myth, history, and spectacular landscapes come together in one of the most fascinating regions of the country. Connected to mainland Greece by the dramatic Corinth Canal, the region unfolds as a journey through some of the most important chapters of Greek civilization. Here travelers encounter the ruins of Ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games, the powerful city-state of Sparta, and the archaeological treasures of Mycenae and Epidaurus, which shaped the foundations of classical Greek culture. At the same time, the Peloponnese offers beautiful coastal scenery and elegant historic towns. The charming seaside city of Nafplio, once the first capital of modern Greece, is widely considered one of the most beautiful towns in the country, with Venetian architecture, lively harbor cafés, and cobbled streets beneath the imposing Palamidi fortress. Further west, the coastline of Costa Navarino has become one of Greece’s most exciting luxury destinations, combining pristine beaches, world-class golf, and exceptional resorts overlooking the Ionian Sea. For travelers interested in history, dramatic landscapes, and authentic Greek culture, the Peloponnese offers one of the most rewarding journeys in the country. We suggest renting a car and taking your time to enjoy this amazing region.

Plus, Napflio is close to the ancient sites of Epidaurus and Mycenae, as well as the wine region of Nemea. If we moved to Greece, this is where we'd want to live. Our favorite place to stay is 3Sixty Hotel and Suites, in the heart of the town, and just a few blocks from the waterfront marina and the main town square surrounded by inviting cafes, restaurants, bars, and shops. Sparta — Myth, Power, and the Rugged Soul of the Peloponnese
Sparta brings a different energy to the journey — more rugged, more austere, and deeply tied to the legendary history of ancient Greece. This is not a polished seaside destination but a place of historical resonance, where travelers can explore the legacy of one of antiquity’s most powerful city-states while discovering a quieter, more authentic side of the Peloponnese. The surrounding Laconia region is beautiful in a raw and understated way, with mountain scenery, olive groves, Byzantine remains, and a slower rhythm of life. Sparta works best as a historical and cultural stop for travelers interested in seeing beyond the more polished highlights of Greece.

Olympia — Birthplace of the Olympic Games
Olympia is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece and one of the most meaningful stops in the Peloponnese for travelers interested in classical history. This is where the ancient Olympic Games began, and walking through the site still feels powerful — the ruins of temples, training grounds, and stadium spaces carrying an unmistakable sense of historical significance. Olympia works best as part of a broader route through the western Peloponnese rather than as a long standalone stay. It adds real depth to the journey and pairs naturally with coastal stops or with Costa Navarino further south.

Costa Navarino brings a completely different dimension to the Peloponnese. Set along the Ionian coast of Messinia, this is where the region turns toward contemporary luxury — long sandy beaches, olive groves, championship golf, excellent dining, and beautifully designed resorts that feel grounded in the landscape rather than imposed on it. It works especially well at the end of a Peloponnese itinerary, offering a chance to slow down after days spent exploring archaeological sites and historic towns.
