Spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere and fabulous fly- fishing options abound. Let's book your adventure now!ICELAND - The 2022 season is underway and it's looking good! The fishing season started in Iceland on April 1st and it's safe to say that we're off to a flying start. This time of year we're focused on the sea run brown trout at Tungufljót, Vatnamót, Fossálar, Skaftá, Ásgarður, Jónskvísl and Grenlækur. The fish have been really healthy and we've been catching some absolute monsters. One in particular, a 98 cm male from Skaftá Ásgarður, caught by our friend and guide, Maros Zatko. Although we're in sea trout wonderland these days, there's also big things brewing at Lake Thingvallavatn. Very big things! As you probably know, Lake Thingvallavatn holds some absolute monsters and has long become famous for those huge ice-age brown trout. We're happy to report that after a cold spring, they've started eating flies! Kárastaðir Beat has been pretty active, and anglers have been netting some beautiful fish. Villingavatnsárós Beat 3A got off to a slow start, but the last dew days things have been going a bit crazy. How about a day at Beat 3A where you land upwards of 20 fish. And we're not talking about your run-off-the-mill brown trout. We're talking monster trout! We offer day guided trips out of Reykjavik, and packages that include accommodations in the best areas of the Highlands, and around the country for large Arctic char, sea-run browns and brown trout, plus Atlantic Salmon season begins in June and runs to the end of September. Plus gorgeous sightseeing and adventure options are available to combine with your fishing. For more information email Stephen, or give him a call: +1 307-690-7472. This time of year, and into summer, we’re all about travels on and near the water – we love days spent reapplying SPF and not checking email. For some, that means toes in the sand and an ice-cold colorful drink – which makes our roundup of Caribbean beach bars required reading. You can also check out - An Ode to the Caribbean Beach Bar

After spending two weeks here we understand why people say Chamonix is a "must ski" destination. The oldest skiing area in the French Alps offers some of the world's best expert skiing off the surrounding saw-toothed peaks and shimmering glaciers that rise 12,500 feet above the valley floor. And we love that the area has more of an authentic alpine flair than other ski resorts’ glitz and glamour. This is a dazzling location with off-the-charts views of awe-inspiring mountains everywhere you look, and old world streets packed with side-walk cafes, boutique shops, fine dining restaurants, and lively bars.Chamonix, France Highlights - Five main ski areas accessed via the area’s mini base villages; 50 lifts transport skiers of all abilities to terrain that fits their skills. Les Houches and Le Tour are ideal for beginners and intermediates to enjoy the slopes, plus advanced skiers can find their thrills as well. Sunny side Brevant and La Flegere can accommodate beginners and intermediates as well, but there are plenty of off-piste bowls and couloirs to test expert adrenalin seekers. And ok, if you arrived looking to challenge yourself, then Les Grands Montets is the place. Long steep runs, on and off piste, combine with couloirs and chutes to make you earn your lunch at one of the many slope-side restaurants. And finally, if you want the ultimate bucket list ski adventure, challenge yourself in the area off of the Aiguille du Midi, reached by a two-stage cable car from downtown Chamonix. The views from the top are ridiculous so make sure to have your camera as you gaze into Italy and Switzerland. Then the 8,000+-foot descent on and along the glacier of Vallee Blanche features spectacular mountain scenery dominated by Mont Blanc. Definitely recommended to hire a guide for this spectacular experience. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy an extensive Nordic trail, ski touring and winter paragliding. The Mt. Blanc unlimited ski pass includes Megeve and Les Contamines in France, Courmayeur, Italy, and Verbier, Switzerland. Stay and Eat - Chamonix’s village is brimming with tons of stores, from designer boutiques to high performance outdoor gear shops. We recommend staying in the town of Chamonix, either in City Centre or Chamonix South. From these central location in the village you are within walking distance of all the amenities, gourmet dining, cool pubs and burger joints, plus easy access to shopping, nightlife, and the bus line to access the valley. For 5-star luxury digs our top recommendations are Hotel Mont-Blanc Chamonix and The Hameau Albert 1er Hotel with it's Michelin recommended dining. Both hotels offer complimentary shuttle service to all the valley ski areas. If you prefer to spread out in a nice apartment our favorite accommodation choice is Le Cristal de Jade Palace. Recently remodeled throughout, this feels more like a residence club than a hotel.
Some of our favorite restaurants in the town of Chamonix include: La Table, Le Panier Des 4 Saisons, La Telecabine, Le Matafan, Atmosphere, Munchie, Le Cap Horn, and La Maison Carrier. And for a killer burger, try Poco Loco. Slope-side, lots of choices at each ski area. Two of our favorites are at Grands Montets ski area - La Cremerie du Glacier and L'Argentero. Best to make reservations at all the restaurants. Private chalets and apartments: Many options, from luxury to economical spread throughout the valley. Let us know your style and we'll make recommendations. Getting Here - Just a 60 minute private car ride from Geneva International Airport. Great to combine with a stay in Geneva at one of our favorite lakeside hotels, or at other nearby resorts like Megeve and Verbier. Custom Travel Planning - We can arrange every aspect of your trip to Chamonix from your hometown and back. Email Stephen to begin planning your personalized adventure. You Dream it. We create it. Stephen.vletas@protravelinc.com Unique resorts, stunning beaches, scrumptious food, sultry nightlife, and engrossing culture. We just returned from three weeks of enjoying the fabulous Mexican Pacific Coast. First confession...we ate and drank too much, but it was impossible to resist. The variety of market fresh seafood and Mexican cuisine was a feast for all your senses. And you can pick your style - fine dining, casually elegant, a table on the beach or perched on a terrace above crashing waves. Family style streetside places like Mary's in Sayulita were also a highlight, along with homemade tamales and quesadillas for breakfast at the Conrad in Punta Mita, and tequila and mezcal tastings at a beachside bar. We should add that we ran into a lot of talented bartenders, who not only introduced us to some artesian tequilas, but were wizards at making delicious and potent craft cocktails. Catching rays was on the agenda most days, poolside at the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, at the Conrad, at Las Ventanas on the Sea of Cortez, and the Waldorf on the Pacific. And yes, all these resorts had amazing beaches too, some where you could swim, body surf, boogie board, or take out a long board. Snorkeling and fishing and diving were options as well. Or just doing nothing can become an art form, though that could be interrupted by a massage. Want something more active...no problem, hiking, biking, eco-excursions, four-wheeling and other adventure activities were always available. We started our trip by flying into Puerto Vallarta, meeting our private driver, and checking in to Villa Amor in Sayulita. This is a laid-back surfing fishing beachside village set on an idyllic bay with a vibe that is both tranquilo and vibrant. If you're looking for action, never a dull moment there on the main beach or around the plaza. Nightlife rocks with live bands and Latin Dancing and too many good restaurants to count so we'll just mention a few of our favorites - Don Pedro's, Emiliano's, Barracuda, La Rustica, El Itacate, and Marcolino. And that will just get you started.
Then on to Punta Mita, where we stayed at the casually elegant Four Seasons, and Hilton's new Conrad Resort. The Four Seasons is hard to beat for the highest level of service and personal attention to detail. World-class dining, dream beaches, water yoga, and nightly Cuban salsa band were some of the highlights. At the Conrad, a beautifully designed resort featured a maze of pools leading to a spectacular beach. Super body-surfing, best beach bar you can imagine, wild natural coastline, superb spa, and ideal for families. Finally, Land's End beckoned. Our stay at Las Ventanas was perfect, just too short. Idyllic Sea of Cortez beach setting, relaxed pool scene with over the top service, extraordinary fine dining, and room service breakfast on our private terrace each morning. Rounding it our was a stay at the Waldorf Los Cabos Pedregal. Mesmerizing location on the Pacific side beach accompanied by the sounds of incessant rolling waves. Beautiful poolside breakfasts, all suites with plunge pools and ocean views, and Kim's birthday dinner at El Farallon. This restaurant is a must; set into the cliff above the crashing waves, amazing champagne terrace and bar, and serving the best in fresh seafood. It was definitely hard to finally say adios. Email us (Stephen and Kim) to start planning your personalized trip. Our month-long trip in May was a blast. We loved fishing with all our friends on Andros. Great time! Then spending a week at the SLS Hotel in the Baha Mar resort was the perfect way finish -- to relax, log pool and beach time, eat at fine dining restaurants, and enjoy the nightlife.
The Baha Mar resort also includes the Grand Hyatt Hotel and the Rosewood Baha Mar. We loved the South Beach vibe of the SLS, which flows through the hotel, starting with the rocking lobby bar and hang space. Definitely go for a deluxe king room or one bedroom suite with ocean view. The pool scene is casual cool, good food and drink service. Or you can also go to the private pool club, Privee, if you want more of a party scene. Or enjoy the SLS beach club. Cleo, a superb Mediterranean restaurant is off the lobby, and Carna, a signature steakhouse is just outside the lobby on the way to the casino. Easy to walk through the entire resort complex from here, and its next door to the new Baha Mar Club that features a fabulous water park, and beachfront restaurant, bar, and infinity pools. The Grand Hyatt anchors the center of the resort with two large towers. The casino is here, along with many restaurants, the Jazz Bar with live music, a Cuban-style cigar bar, and the James Bond nightclub. Six swimming pools, spa, and some of the casual restaurants that are fun for lunch and dinner are here - try the Swimming Pig or Pizza Lab. The Rosewood is part of the resort, but it is a sophisticated world of its own, with its own lobby, living room/library and paneled oak bar. Two Rosewood only swimming pools, private access to Nexus club, and a private beach club. That said, Rosewood guests have the complete run of the resort, and can use any and all facilities at the Grand Hyatt and SLS. The guest rooms and suites include spacious elegant design and out of this world bathrooms and amenities. And for more privacy, the villas are exquisite. Sound good? Get in touch with Stephen or Kim to learn more and to begin booking your ideal vacation. They have the inside scoop on everything Baha Mar and are excited to share it! We're spending the month of May in the Bahamas, fishing with our best friends and guides and checking out some new spots.Always great fun fishing with our long-time friends Andy Smith and Charlie Neymour, but its also great to find a new spot with casually luxurious accommodations where we can fish with our friends from Mangrove Cay - Captain Marvin Miller, Captain Shine Greene, and team.
Caerula Mar Club is that special spot that was needed on South Andros and now we can all enjoy it. Kim and Stephen just stayed 5 fabulous nights at CMC in one of their oceanfront premium suites and they didn't want to leave....especially when you consider they were fishing every day with Marvin and Shine. One thing was clear at CMC, its perfect for couples, and any non-angling spouses keeping their favorite angler company. Not only are the accommodations cushy (private villas are also available!) but the dining experience is 5 star thanks to Argentine chef Sebastian, and his team who provide the type of service you'd expect in a fine restaurant in Nassau or New York. And yes they have some nice Argentine wines too. For lunch, or apre-fishing, the pool bar serves everything from burgers to conch fritters along with cold Kaliks, mojitos and other craft cocktails The beach is gorgeous, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and sea kayaking. The Adventure Team, including a certified dive master will take you explore the reef, to visit blue holes or enjoy the bird life. And the boutique spa offers muscle-relaxing massages on request. Email Stephen for details and to begin booking your trip. From Provo to South Caicos - Stay in the best resorts and fish with the top guides.Luxury resorts, boutique hotels, private homes and villas, superb food and drink, championship golf, and you can still find remote flats to fish on your own or with a guide. Hint: The flats around South Caicos are easy to wade and teeming with bonefish. Plus any water sport you can think of - from jet skiing, to sailing, diving, snorkeling, kite boarding, and don't forget cay-hopping picnics, and Thai massages.
